Fall/Winter Holiday Outfits

Show holiday spirit in a unique and chic way!

THANKSGIVING
Casual Thankgiving
Thanksgiving is usually small and intimate at my house, so we tend to be casual. I love aztec print sweaters. Perfect for showing Native American spirit. Add some moccasin boots, colored leggings, and a scarf, you have the perfect Thanksgiving look.

If your family is a little more formal, a blazer is a great way to go. I love the dark turquoise color for the fall. Pair it with any LBD and some nude heels. If you're going for a more semi-formal look, pair a blazer with a floral scarf, skinnies, and solid flats.

HANUKKAH
Mustard dress with royal blue heels
Mustard is a must-have for this year's fall closet. Hanukkah is the perfect time to bring it back in the winter. What better way to represent a beautiful golden menorah or a the sacred star of David? Mustard is also great for accessorizing. You can wear a pair of royal blue heels to keep the Hanukkah colors involved or a pair of burgundy heels if you don't want to overdo it.

CHRISTMAS

It's hard to ignore red in a Christmas outfit. But rather than using typical, bright, Santa Clause-red, try a cranberry red or wine color. And rather than making red the focus of the outfit, take a plain black dress, and use it as a blank pallet for accessories.

You can also forget about red all together and sport the rather "ignored" color of Christmas, garland green! Kim Kardashian looks gorgeous in this green velvet dress!

NEW YEARS EVE

There is no better combo for NYE this year than sequins and leather. Feel free to step outside the typical 'gold and silver' themes. Navy sequins or forest green sequins are gorgeous! If you're not into sequins you can replace that with metallic pieces.

If you really want to do something different this NYE, try feathers. Feathers are back and they are here to stay. You can incorporate feathers in so many ways. This model is sporting a dress with a feather detailed skirt. If you don't want to overdo the feathers, you can add smaller accents. Try a hair piece, a clutch, or a pair of earrings.

VALENTINES DAY

When it comes to V-Day, there are two types of people: The lovers and the haters. This look is for the haters. To the girls who are used crying in bed every Valentines Day, take a new spin on the holiday of love. Call up your single girl friends, make some strong drinks, and celebrate the single life together. As an outfit suggestion, black lace with red pumps and dark lipstick. It makes a statement that says "I may not have arm candy, but I have a love for style".

As for the lovers, theres no doubt you'll be going on dates with your significant others. For this occasion, I also suggest lace, but white this time. For the Valentine touch, red or pink skinnies are perfect. You can also use red or pink accessories. Adding a leopard accessory brings a sexy touch to the look.

I also adore dresses and shirts with heart cut outs in the back!

Casual Fall-november 27th

I like to entwine a scarf with a long necklace. When the necklace lays agains the scarf, it appears as if the scarf was made that way.
I love the Bow in the back!

Sweater: Free People Scarf: American Eagle  Necklace: Free People

I've had these Steve Madden boots for about four years now and I wear them frequently when it's cold. The more warn down they get, the more rustic they look and I love it!

Don't Trade Comfort for Style, You Can Have Both (fall/winter edition)

Ever wake up in the morning feeling like you'd rather chew off your own finger than get out of bed? Whether its a hangover, illness, or you stayed up a little too late watching Chelsea Handler. But you have work, or breakfast with your parents, or a meeting etc, so it's not really an option. You're dying to stay comfy all day, but you NEED to look presentable. Here are a few ways to be comfortably chic.

The Flat Shoe
Put down that ugg! While Ugg makes a great comfort shoe, they are sloppy looking. If you're looking for comfort in a shoe be sure to wear something flat, with no heel. Even that extra inch will bring you discomfort when walking long distances. Also, steer clear of those flats that pinch your front toes (we all own at least one pair).
Loafers are the perfect chic comfort shoe.

These boots are flat and go over the knee. Comfortable and stylish

The Oversized Sweater
If you are trying to be fashionable, please stay away from your college sweatshirt. Instead, find a loose oversized sweater, one that doesn't itch. Pick a sweater that has color so that it draws attention away from your 'lack of effort'. You can pair it with a long necklace.
Simple, comfy, and chic

The Legging
Leggings are possibly the most comfortable bottoms to wear. But this does not give you an excuse to wear your gym clothes out. Instead of those black yoga leggings, try to find a pair of leather, velvet, colored, or patterned leggings to bump up your look.

Black Leather Leggings
Velvet, colored legginngs
The Scarf
Scarves were originally invented to keep a person's chest and neck warm; But they just so happen to look incredibly chic while doing that. Throwing on an infinity scarf is the quickest and easiest way to transform your outfit.

Mustard is a great color for a scarf. It goes with almost anything

The Shades
Unfortunately you're going to have to opt out of this one if its rainy, cloudy, or if your event is indoors. But if the sun is out, take out your hottest shades. Did you ever notice that sunglasses just make a woman look  glamourous? They do much more than simply shield our eyes from the sun.

Oversized Sunglasses
Hope you enjoyed this fall version of comfort and style. Check back with me when spring emerges and I will tell you how to stay comfortable and chic in warm weather! Stay stylish!

Four Ways to Transform an Outfit in One Simple Step

Have you ever looked in the mirror and said "This outfit is cute, but kind of boring". I'm sure most of us will suck it up and go out in the "practical" outfit. But instead of letting yourself blend in, try to stick out! All you have to do is remember ONE of these following steps to completely transform any outfit from bland to beautiful.

STEP ONE: The pop of color
If you notice that your outfit contains many neutrals and lacks boldness, you might want to add just one accessory or article that is bright. The great thing about the pop of color is that you can use literally ANYTHING for it : a bag, belt, skirt, shirt, earrings, shoes, pants, necklace...etc.
pop of color bag
pop of color skirt

pop of color scarf
pop of color heels

Now try to picture the above outfits, but replace the pop of color items with neutral colored ones.  Is the outfit still as interesting?...Not even close, right?

STEP TWO: The chunks
If you have a casual outfit that needs to be formalized, chunky (for lack of a better word) accessories are the way to go. Instead of wearing many small pieces of jewelry, wear one piece of statement jewelry that can stand on its own.

statement Earrings

statement necklace
statement belt and bracelet

Again, imagine these looks, but with smaller more subtle accessories. Still fabulous?...hardly.

STEP THREE: the detailed tights
Nothing  pulls a fall/winter look together than a pair of laced, patterned, or colored tights.

heart tights
lace tights
polka dot tights

Without the tights, these outfits are plain and simple, and do not make a statement.

STEP FOUR: the vest
Its hard to find a female without a single vest in her closet. If you are one of those women, I highly advise you to inVEST ;). A vest turns a t shirt into a party shirt!

There you have it, four different ways to transform an outfit adding just one article! Do you have more one-step ideas to transform an outfit? Please share :)

Same color outfits.

One trend that I have noticed surfacing is wearing the same color in an outfit but in many different shades. Although this trend is not wide spread I predict it becoming much more popular this year. An important thing that you must keep in mind when attempting to sport this look is that the shades you use must be on opposite sides of the spectrum from one another. Use deep maroon with pale pink, eggplant with lilac, navy with Tiffany blue, etc.

Below are some examples on how to put together a same color outfit. In the blue dominated outfit, I started with light pants and a navy top. I then added a dark blazer and a light bag. It is very important to keep the balance between light and dark colors. One misconception about wearing the same color in two different articles is that the color must match perfectly. It is okay to wear two colors that are slightly off, just don't let the pair dominate the outfit. The bag is slightly lighter than the pants, but they still work together because they blend with the outfit.

The next example shown is a red dominated outfit. You might look at the leather jacket and say "that's brown. Therefore she is cheating". Now keep in mind that the color you choose is not set in stone. Just try to keep each article within the same "color family".

The third example I have shown is a yellow outfit. The deep mustard jeans contrasts very well with the pale yellow shirt. While I kept the main components of the outfit in the yellow/brown family, I have added some color with the accessories. This is also acceptable for this trend. Yellow is a very shy color and the blue and pink accessories brighten the outfit.

You can do this with any color you choose just remember to follow the rules: 1. Opposite sides of the spectrum 2. Balance 3. Color family 4. Express yourself!

Floral Demin

Floral denim surfaced a few years ago. However, it is being utilized in many new ways today. Some women might hesitate to pair floral denim with other patterns. They also tend to hold back when it comes to accessorizing. However, floral denim can be worn with patterns and fabulous accessories as long as you do it RIGHT.

A pair of floral jeans might be considered "loud" so pairing it with something "quiet" only seems right. But what if instead of simple or busy you chose a top that is a happy medium. Below, I paired white floral jeans with a red and white striped, sheer top. When using stripes with another pattern, it is important to not have too many colors on one piece; one is enough, two at most. Using the same red color in the shirt that appears in the jeans keeps the outfit from being too loud as well.

A light shirt with a lace accent can also do the trick. The blue shirt below has just right amount of extra fabric to turn a quiet shirt into a chatty shirt.

In the second photo below I have put the same pair of jeans with a yellow, horizontally-striped, sleeveless button-down. The subtle yellow on the top contrasts well with the pants and does does not over shadow the floral design.

While floral bottoms have made quite the uproar, the design is also ever popular in tops. My favorite way to wear a denim floral top is with bright pants. What else can be worn with a floral denim top? Tell me your ideas!

Studs

There isn't too much to say about studs besides the fact that I LOVE them. My favorite is the pyramid studs seen on this pair of denim shorts. You can look edgy without being considered 'grunge'. Beware: if you decide to strut the streets with your studded leather jacket this fall, you WILL turn heads.

One thing you must realize when adding studs to an outfit is the possibility to overdo it. One piece of stud clothing at a time please! Two at max, if the studs are in small numbers.
